Follow these simple guidelines for a seamless echocardiogram:

  • Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing; you’ll remove upper garments.
  • Jewelry: Remove chest-area jewelry for clear imaging.
  • Medications: Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise.
  • Skin: Avoid lotions or oils on your chest on the day of the test.
  • Arrival: Arrive early to complete paperwork and relax.
  • Health Updates: Inform the technician of any recent health changes.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Here’s what to expect during your 40-minute echocardiogram:

  • Sonographer-Led: A skilled sonographer (not a doctor) performs the test.
  • Setup: You’ll wear an custom gown and lie on your left side.
  • Chaperone: Bring a friend or request a CardioLabs chaperone for comfort.
  • Monitoring: Stickers on your chest track your heart rate.
  • Process: An ultrasound probe with gel captures images from multiple angles.
  • Sounds: You’ll hear blood flow sounds from the machine.
  • Modesty: Your privacy is prioritised throughout.


Results are reviewed by a cardiologist, not the sonographer. Discuss findings with your GP.

After Your Echocardiogram

  • Post-Procedure: Wipe off gel with a provided towel and dress at your own pace.
  • Resume Activities: No restrictions—drive or return to normal activities immediately.

  • Expert Review: Our sonographer and cardiologist analyse images to produce a detailed report with management suggestions.
  • Rapid Delivery: Results are sent electronically to your GP within 24 hours for 90% of echocardiograms.
